sales is a tough gig. You're constantly hustling, trying to close deals and make your quota. It's a grind. But it can be a rewarding one, both financially and personally.

If you're thinking about a career in sales, or are already in sales and looking to up your game, here are some things to keep in mind.

1. It's all about relationships.

In sales, it's not what you know, it's who you know. Your success in sales will be directly proportional to the quality of your relationships. You need to be able to build rapport quickly, and establish trust. This is done through active listening, showing genuine interest in the person you're talking to, and being authentic.

2. It's a numbers game.

The more people you talk to, the more likely you are to make a sale. It's simple math. The more shots you take, the more likely you are to score. So get out there and talk to as many people as you can.

3. You need to be able to handle rejection.

In sales, you're going to get rejected. A lot. It's part of the job. You need to be able to take it in stride and not take it personally. It's not you, it's them. Just move on to the next prospect and don't look back.

4. You need to be coachable.

No one is born a sales superstar. It's a skill that needs to be learned, and like any skill, it takes practice. You need to be open to feedback and willing to put in the work to improve. If you're not coachable, you're not going to make it in sales.

5. You need to be persistent.

sales is a numbers game, remember? The more people you talk to, the more likely you are to make a sale. But you can't just talk to people once and then give up. You need to follow up. A lot. Most sales happen on the fifth or sixth contact with a prospect. So don't give up too soon.

6. You need to have thick skin.

sales is a tough gig. You're going to get rejected, a lot. You're going to hear "no" more times than you can count. You need to have thick skin to be able to handle it. If you're thin-skinned, this is not the job for you.

7. You need to be a risk taker.

sales is not a job for the faint of heart. You need to be willing to take risks. To put yourself out there. To put your ego on the line. If you're not comfortable with taking risks, sales is not the job for you.

8. You need to be competitive.

sales is a competitive business. If you're not competitive, you're not going to make it. You need to be driven to win. To be the best. To crush your quota. If you're not competitive, find another line of work.

9. You need to be resourceful.

In sales, you need to be able to think on your feet. To come up with creative solutions to problems. To find new ways to reach prospects. To close deals. If you're not resourceful, you're not going to make it in sales.

10. You need to have a positive attitude.

In sales, attitude is everything. You need to be positive, even when things are tough. When you're getting rejected left and right. When you feel like you're never going to make your quota. When all you can see is the negative, you need to find the positive. If you can't do that, sales is not the job for you.
